The most rumored enhancements to the MacBook Pro 2022
MacBook Pro 2022 |
The MacBook Pro 2022 was expected to be unveiled during Apple's Peak Performance event. The ceremony passed without any mention of the new laptop, but reports persist that it will be released in 2022. According to what we've heard, the MacBook Pro 2022 won't be as significant an upgrade as the MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch from last year.
The 2022 MacBook Pro appears to be a new entry-level Pro-grade MacBook that will replace the $1,299 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 at the time. We put the laptop among the greatest laptops since it was so much better than its predecessor. Given that the Apple M2 chip is believed to be in the MacBook Pro 2022, we could witness gains in performance and economy.
With that in mind, the upcoming 13-inch MacBook Pro is unlikely to bring significant modifications. So far, the most significant MacBook Pro 2022 updates have been rumored.
Apple's M2 processor
The most intriguing thing we've heard about the MacBook Pro 2022 is the anticipated Apple M2 processor. The M2 will have the same 8-core CPU as the original M1 chip, but with faster clock speeds, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The new processor, instead of having an 8-core GPU like the M1, could have a 10-core GPU.
The M2 is interesting in that it will not outperform the present M1 chips. The M2 will "probably be a little faster than the M1," according to Gurman, but "should keep the same 8-core architecture." However, the transition from seven or eight cores to nine or ten cores in the MacBook Pro 2022 should result in enhanced graphics.
We can't disclose how many cores the M2 chip will feature, despite speculations to the contrary. It was previously thought that the chip will feature up to 12 CPU cores. The M1 Pro and M1 Max don't have that many, with 8 and 10 cores, respectively.
According to Mark Gurman, the M2 chip will contain an 8-core CPU with four efficiency and high-performance cores, as well as a 10-core GPU. It'd be less powerful than the M1 Pro and M1 Max, but more powerful than the M1 chip it's supposed to replace.
Maybe a new design?
Whatever their source, all rumors point to the MacBook Pro 2022 having an M2 chip — or at the very least a new Apple chip. However, we've heard a variety of opinions on the laptop's design. According to some sources, the MacBook 2022 will have the same design enhancements as the MacBook Pros of 2021. According to some rumors, there will be no design changes.
According to Mark Gurman, the laptop will not have the mini-LED panels found in the 2021 MacBook Pros. As a cost-cutting measure, the MacBook Pro 2022 is said to be missing ProMotion. It's probable that the laptop will have the cheaper IPS LCD Retina display found in the MacBook Air. If this is accurate, it will be a huge letdown for those who have been waiting for the MacBook Pro 2022.
The 2022 MacBook Pro will also have MagSafe charging, as well as HDMI and SD card connectors, according to Gurman. All three of them were reintroduced in the MacBook Pros of 2021, for those keeping track. It's also probable that the 2018 MacBook Pro may come with the divisive notch display.
In terms of contentious design elements, the 2022 MacBook may or may not include a Touch Bar. According to Gurman's source, Apple will ditch the Touch Bar, but if the MacBook Pro's general design isn't too dissimilar from its M1-powered predecessor, the feared Touch Bar could make an appearance.
Price for newcomers
The MacBook Pro 2022 is likely to be the company's next entry-level notebook. As a result, it will price less than $2,000, possibly as low as $1,299, similar to the M1-powered MacBook Pro. We anticipate a similar pricing arrangement for the new laptop, given that it is a replacement.
Apple may, however, opt to raise the MacBook Pro's starting price. The 16-inch MacBook Pro 2021, for example, costs roughly $100 more than its predecessor. A similar price increase was seen on the smaller 14-inch Pro. If Apple follows suit with the new Pro, we could be looking at a starting price of $1,399.
Outlook for the MacBook Pro 2022
The little speculations we've heard about the MacBook Pro 2022 give us reason to be both enthusiastic and cautiously optimistic.
The M2 chip, as previously said, is the most significant enhancement of the speculated laptop. Even though it isn't as powerful as the M1 Pro and M1 Max, the promised performance gain may be enough to convince some users to move from their existing 13-inch MacBook Pro.
Remember that everything mentioned here is based on rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt. Yes, Gurman is a reputable source, and Apple is undoubtedly working on something, but that doesn't mean a new MacBook Pro or the M2 processor will be released this year.
We don't know if the next chip will be termed the "M2" or if it will just be another M1 generation. For the time being, all we can do is sit tight and wait for more specific news. Hopefully, the MacBook Pro 2022 will be released later this year, and we'll be able to evaluate how it compares.
