Google Maps will be able to ban 100 million harmful updates by 2021

Last year, Google discovered a large attempt by scammers to submit abusive updates to legitimate Google Business Profiles.

Over 100 million modifications were prohibited, and over 7 million phony company profiles were erased.

The company utilized a combination of AI models and human operators to control aggressive conduct on the network.

On the internet, abusive behavior has become common, putting the information you discover on any site under examination. This includes Google Maps reviews, albeit thanks to machine learning, the search giant was able to maintain the content on the service as accurate and relevant.

Last year, Google reported that it had rejected over 100 million abusive updates aimed at Google Business Profiles. "Machine learning algorithms boosted our ability to catch bot activity and identify questionable activity patterns," the business added.

More than 7 million bogus business profiles were also eliminated by the Mountain View-based firm. Artificial intelligence was credited with a substantial chunk of the takedowns, while over 630,000 were based on user reports.

Furthermore, Google thwarted over 12 million efforts to construct phony profiles and nearly 8 million attempts to claim a business profile. More than a million accounts were also terminated for breaking Google's anti-vandalism and anti-fraud policies.

In addition to aggressive behavior, Google Maps has seen an increase in attempts to harm local companies by using bogus reviews. "Over 95 million policy-violating reviews were blocked or removed," Google added, "with over 60,000 of those taken down due to COVID-related cases."

Its machine learning models also assisted in the removal of over 190 million photographs and 5 million movies that were of poor quality or violated the company's content restrictions.

Google's latest finding demonstrates that artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly essential in preventing the spread of illegal activity on the internet.
